Welcome to the information site for
Amateur Radio Expo. Here
you will find news and information about what the Amateur Radio Expo is and
when it will be coming to a venue near you.
Our current schedule for the remaining portion of 2009 is going to be very
busy. To start with we are partnering with our original venue, the Los
Angeles County Fair, on the weekends in September. The first weekend in
October will find us at the Grape Harvest Festival in Rancho Cucamonga for
the 2nd year. Moving on in the month and spreading the Expo experience we
will set up at the Southern California Fair in Perris for the weekends of
Oct. 10-11 and 17-18.
Our Vision
To showcase Amateur Radio in all of its forms and
functions by providing an interactive experience for guests attending the
Rancho Cucamonga Grape Harvest Festival.
To showcase Amateur Radio in all of its forms and functions
by providing an interactive experience for the guests attending our partner
venues.
Our vision for the Amateur Radio Expo is to provide the general public with
a wide array of information and experiences about all the aspects of ham
radio. While it is a hobby, for most of us it is also a way of life, and we
work hard to represent different areas and clubs , but we also want to show
the scope of what ham radio is capable of. Our goal is to show off
everything from ATV and APRS to T-hunting, community service events, public
service for police and fire, and anything else that we can use to show the
positive aspects of hams and ham radio.
We do our best to include a special event station during each of our
displays during the Expo and use special event call signs when we can. We
don’t guarantee the conditions or propagation but demonstration stations
will be available. We also have exhibits from clubs about what they do and
displays of events that some of us work on an annual basis. For those of us
and the public that are more technically oriented we have different types of
antennas on display. One of our biggest success stories is our “Widget
Factory”. This is a booth that is set up with kits to introduce kids of all
ages to the basics of electronic circuitry. A certificate with a picture of
the inventor and the “widget” will be offered as a souvenir to commemorate
their visit to the Amateur Radio Expo. Participation in the Expo is open to
any individual or group wanting to join us or introduce themselves, show
what they do for the community and be willing to come out and join us for a
minimum of one 6 hour shift.
As you can see we have a very ambitious plan and we need help to coordinate
the events that will be taking place. Please contact us through this site if
you would like to help with any of the events on our calendar. Space
precludes listing all of our very dedicated volunteers personally but you
know who you are and we couldn’t succeed without you. Joy Matlack, KD6FJV
and Rich Whited, KG6JKJ are the Co-Chairs; Carl, WU6D and Cathy, K6VC,
Gardenias act as club liaisons; Larry Simon, KC7QJO is our webmaster and
technical consultant.
